About Daily Calorie Calculator

Free calorie calculators that show their math, so you can see where every number comes from.

What This Site Does

Daily Calorie Calculator offers free tools for two questions: how many calories you need each day, and how many calories an activity burns. Every calculator runs in your browser, needs no sign-up and shows the formula behind its result.

Who Runs It

The site is published by FourthMedia, a small independent publisher of reference websites. We build and maintain the calculators ourselves. We are not doctors or dietitians, and nothing on this site is medical advice.

How We Build the Calculators

Each calculator uses a published, peer-reviewed method. Daily calorie needs use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Calories burned use MET values from the 2024 Adult Compendium of Physical Activities. Every formula, its source and its known limits are listed on our Methods and Sources page.

  • We name the formula on every result.
  • We link to the study behind it.
  • We say plainly where an estimate can be wrong.
  • We correct mistakes as soon as we find them.

How the Site Makes Money

The calculators are free. In the future the site may show ads and may link to products, such as fitness trackers or food scales, through affiliate programs. When we earn a commission from a link, we will say so near the link. Ads and affiliate links never change a calculator result.
